Description
Streusel, or a crumbly topping made of fat, flour, and sugar, is a German classic perfect for adorning cakes and sweet breads.
0,5 sugar
3,25 flour
0,75 butter
0,65 skim milk
1 egg
2 fresh baker's yeast
1 salt
1 cinnamon
powdered sugar
Step 1/5
Crumble the yeast into a bowl. Pour in the warm milk and set aside for about 10 minutes to activate the yeast.
Step 2/5
Add the warm milk to a bowl with 2 ⅓ cups flour, salt, and 2 tbsp sugar. Mix and add a ½ cup melted butter and the egg. Knead and let rise for 30 minutes in a warm place, covered with a clean cloth.
Step 3/5
Roll out the dough in a pie pan to a thickness of 2 to 3 cm and let rest for another 30 minutes.
Step 4/5
Prepare the streusel filling: with your hands, crumble the reMayning softened butter, add the reMayning flour, the reMayning sugar, and the cinnamon and knead to obtain a crumbly dough. Spread the streusel over the dough and bake for 30 minutes at 350 °F.
Step 5/5
Let cool before removing from the pan, then sprinkle with powdered sugar and enjoy.
Tip
This streusel can be used in many different ways: on top of cookies, pie crusts, cakes, or on fruit compotes!
